Marie TorstenssenThe Malmö Individual and Neighbourhood Development Study (MINDS)

MINDS is replicating PADS+ research using all the instruments developed and tested in PADS+ to allow cross-national comparisons, for example, how differences in social structure and welfare provision, as well as the operations of the criminal justice system, may impact on country differences in crime involvement and drug use. The intention is to follow a randomly selected sample of 1000 children from age 12 up to age 22 through the critical developmental period of adolescence. Currently, the study is cross-sectional, but aims to become longitudinal, funding permitting. The sample is one third of all children born in 1995 and living in Malmö. The study began in September 2007 and 2008 has focused on collecting retrospective data from parent interviews.
