716 young people took part in the first child sweep. These were randomly sampled from all young people entering year 7 in Peterborough schools in 2002. All participants and their families provided active consent to participate. The sample was ethnically representative of the general population and split evenly by gender. Participants represented a wide range of socioeconomic classes.
To date, PADS+ has maintained an impressive retention rate, losing less than 4% of its sample (mostly due to participants moving abroad).
